[1800] dolls on 60 stone steps of Tomisaki shrine in Katsuura city, Chiba prefecture. Each unique doll is expertledly hand-crafted to look like a Japanese ancient courtiers. I enjoy studying their expressions and mannerisms. If you peered closely, you might catch some ladies in the middle of secret whispers or some red face angry dolls.
This doll festival or Hina Matsuri has been celebrated since Heian period (year 794-1185). The dolls from each era look and dress differently. I will share some pic of antique dolls soon
