Another really cool looking bird I saw in Ecuador – this is a Masked Trogon!
When I first saw this bird is was early in the morning so I only really saw the red breast, and it immediately reminded me of a Robin but I couldn’t get over how vibrant the red was. Well you can imagine my surprise when later that day I spotted it again and realized the feathers on the back and wings were not black like I had originally thought but actually a brilliant irridescent green!
I think this is what stood out the most between animals in Ecuador compared to Ontario. We have brightly colored birds here – the red of a cardinal or blue of a blue jay for example. But our colourful birds are just one color, perhaps mixed with either white or black. The animals of Ecuador in comparison often had 2,3 or even 4 different vibrant colors on display!
