. As I’ve told you in my first Gambia share, this country from origin is the home of a African witch doctor. Or a Shaman, depending on which culture you’re from.
Long time ago, even before the British colonized this country, people came from over all nearby African countries just to see or meet this particular man. Gambia was kind of a save haven at those times, or so I’ve been told by one of the locals.
When people told that they were going to the Gambia, they would actually say they would go to the shaman. It’s kind of the same if your name is Tom, and your friends will tell other people that they’ll go to “Toms Place”. The Gambia, place of the shaman/witch doctor.
Those particular journeys still resonate through the country at the present day. It’s possible to find and visit historic burial mounts, signs of historical nomads and also these weird river crossings. This group of people are about to cross the river on a piece of land in the middle of nowhere. There were no small villages to be seen, we were miles out of the major cities and still you’ll find these kind of slopes with or without functional ferries. The blue ferry you can see on my capture was not used. All of these people, stacked in a little floater and ready to cross these crocodile infested waters.
