Charlie was this charming camel, who was mistreated by his master. I visited the pyramids for the first time in my life, since it was always on my bucket list to witness the grandiosity of these monuments and their addition to human advancement.

I was ushered to sit upon a camel and try riding it as part of the egyptian touristic experience. I was apprehensive at first; I couldn’t tell what to expect as soon as I sat on his back. What if he rushed up and started running? How will I get off if that happens? What if I fall off? All my anxious thinking came magically to place. I kept disregarding every thought I kept getting. Meanwhile, the camel’s master kept whipping Charlie to get up. I got furious. I started asking the man not to do so as the camel groaned with each whip. I couldn’t understand why he’d do that to him. As soon as I was up in the air, I was really worried. What if the camel wanted to lash out at the man by running away? What if it gets angry and throws me off?

What I did was that I kep patting Charlie on the back of his neck, saying his name softly and speaking to him in a kindly manner because I wanted to be safe. He calmed down, thankfully and when he sat back down, I realized I was selfish. I was petting him because I was sad, but mainly because I did not want to be thrown off. So I patted him again and I made friends with him. I felt deeply for Charlie, a beautiful creature known for decades for its loyalty, preservance and patience. .
.
Thank you Charlie. I hope you are well.
