Manneken Pis is the single most recognizable landmark in Brussels. After centuries alone, he finally got some company in the 80s and 90s in the form of fellow peeing kid Jeanneke and peeing dog Zinneke.
1️⃣ Manneken Pis
Has been happily peeing in Brussels for more than 400 years.‼️ His name translates to “Little Man Pee”.
A popular story states how a little boy named Julien saved the city of Brussels that was on fire and quickly peed on it.
The little guy has been stolen so many times that since 1965 The original statue is kept at the Maison du Roi on the Grand Place.
2️⃣Jeanneke-Pis
A local restaurant owner was eager to establish equality between the sexes, and so set about creating a counterpart to Manneken Pis. Though, cynics suggest it was just a stunt to attract visitors to the restaurant.
3️⃣Zinneke Pis
The pissing dog statue, “Zinneke Pis,”is static; it’s not a fountain like the others. It was installed on the corner of one of the trendiest shopping streets downtown in 1998.
