Ok here’s one for those of you who are less than thrilled about all the bugs that have been on here the last couple days! I mentioned all the hummingbirds we saw, but their was also a stunning array of other birdlife!
Definitely the most common bird around in the cloud forest was the Green Inca Jay. This super colourful bird looked like it had just stepped out of a comic book, and had a quirky personality to match!
Each morning as I was counting the moths on my light trap the Inca Jays would slowly hop closer and closer, tilting their head with curiousity, and screeching to eachother loudly as they tried to figure out whether it was safe. Before long an extra bold one would suddenly fly right up and grab a moth from right out of my hands!! Despite my best efforts in chasing them off, I inevitably lost a few moths each morning to the enthusiastic Inca Jays. On the bright side it made the ‘possible sources of error’ section of my final paper so much more fun to write!
