One of my fondest memories of Egypt was when we asked our driver to bring us to a restaurant where they serve camel meat and other traditional Egyptian dishes. He said camel is usually made at home…they usually don’t serve it restaurants but he said he would look around for a place he could bring us tomorrow. The next day he picked us up and told he that he found a place he could bring us. Around lunch time he drove us out of the city into more of a residential neighborhood with apartment buidlings. He said he couldn’t find a restaurant that served the dishes we were asking for so his wife offered to cook us lunch in their home. We met his wife and their 2 year old daughter and then he explained the dishes his wife prepared. We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting with him and his family. They expressed how honored they were to invite us into their home but really we were the ones who felt honored to be invited into their home. .
