The Louvre
When I planned my trip, one of the 2 must visit places, i was told, was the Louvre Museum, famous for the display of, arguably the most famous painting in the world, Mona Lisa.
Originally built as a palace for French kings, it became a place for display of royal collection when in 1682, Louis XIV decided that he needed more space to stretch his arms and legs and shifted his household to the Palace of Versailles. It became a museum in 1793 and today, is the world’s largest Art Museum.
Anyway… we didn’t visit this Must Visit landmark of Paris…simply because…we felt it needs at least a week to properly tour the museum! But.. we did walk around to check out the Louvre Pyramid, a glass and metal structure which acts as the main entrance to the Museum. Designed by the famous architect IM Pei and completed in 1989, this structure is in itself a landmark of the city today!
