This cool looking hummingbird is a Tawny Bellied Hermit! We saw a couple of them during our stay at San Isidro but they were very shy and never actually came to the feeders, preferring to drink from these malvaceae flowers. While the other hummingbird species had a wide range of beak lengths, these were the only ones we saw with such pronounced curved beaks! The scientists in me was definitely brainstorming hypotheses for why…????????
