This magnificent fig tree started life high in the forest canopy when a seed was dropped onto a branch by a passing bird or bat. The seed germinated and the young fig spent its early life on the host tree’s branch, obtaining food from decaying leaf litter and water from rain. As the seedling grew and it’s hunkering for nutrients increased, it sent out long cable-like roots, some of which descended to the ground whilst others encircled its host. Eventually the host tree died, leaving a thriving instagrammable fig tree in its place The rainforest is bloody breathtaking ai!! .
