If you still haven’t made plans to celebrate the 4th of July, you’re in luck! Countless cities across the US are preparing for festive parades, extravagant fireworks shows, state fairs, and so much more. Whether you’d prefer to celebrate with a wild all-night party or a family-friendly neighborhood BBQ, there are plenty of incredible destinations to choose from this year. A few of the best cities to visit on the 4th include:

New York City

If you want to attend the nation’s largest 4th of July celebration, New York is the place to be. The annual fireworks show launched from the Brooklyn Bridge gets more extravagant every year, setting off an average of 75,000 shells each Independence Day. Seeing this amazing display against the skyline of the iconic city will stick in your memory for years to come.

But fireworks certainly aren’t the only things that New York has to offer. Families can visit Coney Island for a fun day of swimming at the beach, watch the hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous, relax at Luna Park, or check out the 5th annual Freedom Fest at Watermark. The Freedom Fest offers live music, a dinner buffet, and will provide great views of the fireworks later in the evening.

Los Angeles

This year is the 20th annual parade hosted by the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce. Beginning at 11 am, over 1,000 participants will parade through the streets to represent this year’s theme: “America, Better Together.” People from all over the country will represent their cities, including people from Honolulu, Kitty Hawk, Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, and several more.

After the parade, be sure to check out the massive block party at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles. This family-friendly event covers eight full blocks and will feature live music, a variety of games and activities, dozens of food vendors, and more. The party is scheduled from 3-9:30 pm, and there will be a fireworks show immediately following the free event.

If you’re willing to splurge a little on the 4th, the Fireworks Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl is a must-see. The Los Angeles Philharmonic and the U.S. Air Force Band of The Gold West will be performing this year, and you can enjoy food, wine, or even an entire dinner while you watch the show. Just be sure to purchase your tickets soon!

Washington, D.C.

There’s no more patriotic way to celebrate the 4th than visiting the nation’s capital! Attendees should definitely arrive on the West Lawn to find a spot to enjoy this year’s program, which begins at 8 pm. There will be a concert featuring Carole King, the Broadway cast of Beautiful starring Vanessa Carlton, and a performance from the National Symphony Orchestra. The 50th anniversary of Sesame Street will be celebrated with a tribute performance, and the night will end in an impressive fireworks display over the National Mall.

For a trip back in time to the first Independence Day, guests are encouraged to visit George Washington’s estate, Mount Vernon. There will be live military reenactments, a special fireworks display over the Potomac River, and a performance from the National Concert Band. Attendees may even get a free slice of birthday cake to enjoy with their Colonial-style ice cream!
