Going on a vacation abroad with your best friends is one of the best adventures you can ever embark on. Whether you choose to pamper yourselves on a tropical beach or go on a camping excursion through Europe, traveling with your girlfriends is guaranteed to be a wonderful experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
However, choosing just one destination can be difficult when trying to appeal to all your friends’ interests and “must-see” lists. This guide is designed to help even the most indecisive groups choose the perfect location for their girlfriend getaway, with every place offering plenty of activities, breathtaking sights, and of course, excellent group photo opportunities!
Take a road trip around Iceland
Iceland is a great destination for adventurous friend groups! This Nordic country features an incredibly diverse landscape, ranging from hot springs to volcanoes to snowy mountains, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors in Iceland. You and your girlfriends can drive out to Snaefellsnes Peninsula, or “little Iceland,” which features a volcanic crater, a geothermal pool, lava tube caves, The Gerðuberg Cliffs, and gorgeous views of the sea. For a truly luxurious Icelandic experience, consider indulging yourself at the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy in-water massage treatments in the geothermal pool, gaze out at the lava fields, and have a meal at the restaurant, which is actually built into a lava wall within the lagoon. In addition, the Blue Lagoon is located just 30 minutes away from Reykjavík, making it a great day trip idea.
Enjoy the Yucatán Peninsula
Explore ancient Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, which is a World Heritage site that attracts over a million tourists every year. It features outstanding Mayan architecture, including an incredible temple that’s surrounded by lush green forests. To cool off, you and your girlfriends can enjoy over 70 miles of sandy beaches along the Mayan Riviera and take a dip in the warm blue waters. For a truly unique experience, visit the Rio Secreto, a beautiful and mysterious underground labyrinth found beneath Quintana Roo, or go snorkeling alongside sea turtles at Akumal Beach. Make sure to visit the “yellow town” of Izamal to climb an ancient Mayan pyramid and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride to see the sights of the city!
Stay in the South Island of New Zealand at the lovely Edenhouse lodge for luxury accomodations, gorgeous gardens, fine dining, and exceptional hospitality from the lodge owners. Nearby, you and your girlfriends can go shopping at the local markets, explore the wine region of Marlborough, and visit several art galleries within the city. Nelson also offers great access to Abel Tasman National Park, which is New Zealand’s smallest national park. This little park still packs a big punch, as guests can explore sandy beaches and ancient ruins, or they can choose to swim, kayak, or take a guided cruise along the coastline. For those who love camping, you can also choose to spend the night beneath the stars within the park!
Spend a week in Vancouver
This northern city well-known for its friendliness and hospitality is an excellent location for appreciators of nature, science, and art alike. Visit the Museum of Anthropology for a trip back in time to earn about the Northwest Coast First Nations, look at outstanding examples of indigenous artworks, and explore the museum’s Multiversity Galleries, which contains over 16,000 objects from around the world. Take a walk in North America’s third-largest park, Stanley Park, which attracts millions of tourists every year. It features an aquarium, miles of hiking trails, and plenty of natural wildlife. Lastly, be sure to travel out to Granville Island for quaint cafes, awesome bookstores, and unique local shops.
Head out to Rome
There are plenty of sightseeing opportunities in Rome, including the Pantheon, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Sistine Chapel, just to name a few. The U.S. News & World Report even states that a week isn’t nearly long enough to enjoy everything this fantastic city has to offer! You and your friends will never have a chance at getting bored here as you travel from historic monuments to lavish cathedrals to modern shops all contained within Italy’s capital. To see a full panoramic view of the Emerald City, take a hike up to Gianicolo Hill to take in the sights (and take some great photos). Taste some awesome Italian food, and if you’re up for the challenge, learn how to make homemade pasta alongside a professional chef! Before you leave, be sure to toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain; according to a legend, everyone who does so will someday return to Rome.
