CURIOSITÀ:
Lo sapevate che Þingvellir è il sito storico più importante per la cultura islandese, perchè nell’anno 930 vi venne fondato l’Althing che pare essere il più antico parlamento del mondo (Alþingi in islandese, e Þingvellir significa il “luogo dell’assemblea”). La leggenda narra che verso l’anno 1000 Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði decretò che il Cristianesimo sarebbe stata l’unica religione islandese, e dopo aver preso questa decisione sulla via del ritorno a casa gettò le sue statuette raffiguranti gli idoli nordici nella cascata che oggi porta il nome di Goðafoss (“Cascata degli dei”)
