Today is Mahalaya.. It marks the beginning of the Durga Puja.. Being a Bengali, it is indeed a custom to wake up early in the morning and listen to the radio on “Mahishasur Mordini” which means the killing of the evil. Every year, thousands of Bengalis of all ages wait for this day and wake up as early as 4:00 am in the morning just to listen the whole story of Goddess Durga defeating the evil Mahishasur.
